About Me
MY name is Rafi Mohamed and I’m a professional graphic designer living and working in rural Mid Wales, formerly based in London where I had a varied career as an art editor, studio manager and artworker / visualiser.
From initial training in graphics on a television and film production degree course I moved into print graphic design, working initially for The Guardian’s foreign and Commonwealth news syndication service, and then for Business Traveller magazine and Export Times newspaper, all based on Fleet Street in London.
After a brief period in advertising working for Haymarket Publishing I was commissioned by Pentagram Design to join Macmillan Publishing as Art Editor for the newly re-designed weekly Nursing Times magazine which involved design and layout of the entire magazine, design concepts and development, commissioning artwork and illustration, recruiting and managing design staff and liaison with the print production department. The magazine won the Periodical Publishers Award in 1986.
After a 
short period as a freelance designer working for various clients, including the Royal College of Nursing I joined trend forecasting consultancy Nigel French Enterprises as an Art Editor / Studio Manager, organising and recruiting photographers, design and administrative staff and being responsible for design concepts, production of specialist publications and co-ordination of design and media material from foreign locations during fashion fairs in Europe and the US.
Following a move to Mid Wales I became permanently self-employed as a design consultant, working for a variety of clients including Powys County Council (the On the Border tourism development initiative), RIBA and ASBA Architects, John Stallards and Patience Clarke solicitors, the Forestry Commission (tourist information boards and print for local walks), Biglands Engineering, Fieldens Tyres, the Bleddfa Centre, plus local campaigning groups including the Knighton Community Support Group, and Fairtrade Knighton.
I continue my freelance design work with a diverse mix of clients in tourism (Cwmllechwedd Fawr and TriCounty Tours) local business (Tower House Gallery, the Horse and Jockey Inn and Slender Thread Workshop) charitable concerns (KINDA and the Knighton Food Bank) and artists and creatives (Nicola Hopwood Stained Glass, poet Nicholas Murray and author StefMo).

On the personal side I continue my life-long love of classical music, reading and film, with enjoyment of walking and touring in the beautiful Mid Wales countryside, meeting up with friends for good food, coffee and enlightening political chat. Not forgetting of course my support for and enduring pride in my novelist son… and his son.
